A’we deh ya Residency & Engagement at VCU

As part of Paloma McGregor/Angela’s Pulse residency with VCUarts Dance + Choreography, Paloma and collaborators Christine King, Kayla Hamilton, and Nina Angela Mercer have been developing a new, community-specific iteration of Building a Better Fishtrap / A’we deh ya (All of Us Are Here).

Throughout this process, we’ve been listening, learning, and creating alongside Richmond Cultural Bearers, Community Leaders, and VCU students.

As a culmination of this developmental period we will gather this April with VCU and Richmond community members for a week of process and an evening of performance and dialogue, where food and conversation will come together to explore what it takes to nourish and sustain a healthy community.

Introduction to Audio Descriptions

Introduction to Audio Descriptions

Join Dance Source Houston for one of our professional development workshops created with dancers, choreographers, dance educators and organization leaders in mind.

This workshop will provide an introduction to the nuts and bolts of Audio Description as a tangible access practice and a creation tool. We’ll explore various ways AD can be used and how it can help us articulate what we are making, who we are making it for, and why. We will practice how AD can support us in attuning to our inherent multiplicity and build connection with each other from there.

Presented by Kayla Hamilton.

All participants will need to mask or test negative before coming into the space. COVID tests and masks will be provided.

ÌMÍ Festival 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria

  • Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, 900108 Nigeria (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

We have just returned from a transformative 10-day journey in Abuja, where we engaged with artists, explored access-centered environments and Disability Justice in practice. Our time was spent in deep collaboration—first with non-disabled artists, creating spaces where access is considered.  Then, we gathered with a powerful group of cross-disabled artists—storytellers, movement makers, culture shapers.

One moment stands out: our opening circle, where Black Disabled artists from across Nigeria came together, taking up space, making history. This was not just an event—it was a beginning. A space of possibility. A moment to be nurtured. We will return to Abuja, not as visitors, but as stewards of the seeds we planted together.

Follow our journey on Instagram, where we’ll be sharing glimpses of this work throughout the next couple of months.
